Mt. Vernon Senior High School is fortunate to have a very active technical theatre program with an enrollment of 70 students. Class work includes audio design/reinforcement, lighting design, scenic design, construction techniques, scenic painting, costuming, rigging and theatre safety.
In addition to class work, the students build five shows a year including a traveling Children's Theatre production, two musicals, a radio drama and a straight play.
The classes also have an opportunity to work on productions at neighboring high schools and venues. Recent outside projects include the Evansville Philharmonic Peppermint Pops (moving light programming), The Really Big Show at The Centre (Evansville) (Scenic construction and lighting design), Evansville Dance Theatre "The Nutcracker" and Evansville Ballet's "Scenes from Swan Lake" (lighting design and execution)
Upcoming productions include three concerts for the Evansville Philharmonic, "Peppermint Pops" (moving light programming), "Cirque de la Symphonie" (lighting design) and "Sci-fi Night" (moving light programming). The Evansville Ballet's "The Nutcracker" (lighting design and execution) and the Evansville ARC's "Really Big Show" (scenic construction and lighting design)
